Just wanted to let everyone know that I updated some of the data available in my graph of American population, firearms, and firearm-related deaths. I added a data set comparing the overall American population against the overall numbers of firearms in America, and it adequately illustrates how the average number of firearms per 10,000 people has been clearly increasing over the past 25 years (it went from 6727 firearms per 10,000 people in 1981 up to 8307 firearms per 10,000 people in 2006).
Additionally, I added pointers on the graph indicating approximately when each of the major firearm-related bills of the recent quarter-century were passed, went into effect, or expired. The pointers are not exact, but they give the general idea. If I missed any major federal bills, please let me know. However, bear in mind that there is no evidence that the Assault Weapon Ban decreased crime, there is no evidence that the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act decreased crime, and recent research studying the overall crime-decline in the 1990’s does not even mention either of those two laws.
As always, feel free to download and repost the image as you see fit, and the updated source data is still publicly available.

It seems as though I have a few people to thank for linking to my graph disproving the common myth that “more guns = more deaths” (and its subsequent updates). Suffice to say, that myth is unequivocably false. However, in…
