Now there is something new and different… I cannot say as though I ever knew that Dr. Ruth Westheimer was a Haganah-trained sniper, and a stunningly good one at that. For those unfamiliar with the term “Haganah” (like me), it was an underground defense force for Israel that eventually got absorbed into the core of the Israel Defense Forces.
I wonder what she thinks of the specious and laughable argument that hoplophobes put forward about firearms being compensation for lacking male genitalia, what with being a woman, a remarkably skilled sniper, and a doctor of human sexuality…

Haganah actually means defense in Hebrew. The IDF is also known in Israel as TsaHaL which is short for Tsava Haganah l’Israel. Translated this means roughly Army (tsava) Defense (haganah) l’Israel (of Israel)
Well that makes all kinds of sense then. Thanks for the clarification!
