Dan Numan said the gimmick is a facetious protest of the new statute, which he called “ignorant.”

The first 100 people who visit Numan’s Cafe and Sports Bar today will be offered the water pistols. A massive water gun fight was anticipated.

Numan said he and several other restaurant owners in the city intend to post signs, as allowed by the legislation, that lets them opt out of permitting real handguns in their establishments.

Right, because protesting about law-abiding citizens being able to legally defend themselves in another location is more than sufficient reason to stage a protest using… er… water guns. Wait, that makes no sense at all. Of course, the individual responsible for this farcical little publicity stunt makes no sense either – he has already stated that he is not going to allow firearms in his establishment, but he goes on to call the new law “ignorant”.
Well, bucko, the situation is not exactly going to change for you, now is it? Before today, law-abiding citizens could not legally carry into your establishment. After today (assuming your sign abides by the requirements of Tennessee State Code 39-17-1359), law-abiding citizens cannot legally carry into your establishment. Net change: 0. Of course, criminals will still have no problems carrying into your establishment, just like they had no problems before the law, so it would appear as though you were the ignorant one, Danny, what with you metaphorically shoving your fingers in your ears and humming.
Furthermore, who the hell are you to tell restaurants that they should not allow handgun carry permit holders to bring their firearms onto their premises? If you want to do such a thing, knock yourself out, and more power to you, but imposing your narrow, bigoted viewpoint on the rest of the world is simply not tolerable. Additionally, I find it remarkably telling that you prefer your patrons to be disarmed and defenseless, easy prey for anyone who would be willing to attack them going to, coming from, or at your establishment… because that has never happened.
Well, congratulations, Danny – your cute little stunt got you your 15 seconds of fame… and guaranteed that no one who enjoys their rights will frequent your establishment in the future.
