undermount this

One of the more common changes we have wanted to make to houses we have looked at buying recently always seems to involve the kitchen, and especially the countertops and cabinets. However, one of the other considerations available when remodeling a kitchen is the sink you are going to put in it, and how you are going to arrange it. Since granite and granite-looking countertops are so prevalent and popular these days, the option of installing an undermount granite sink is certainly an interesting one, especially since they are constructed out of environmentally-friendly materials, which should help keep people happy when you go to sell the house yourself. Barring that, you can always go with an undermounted stainless sink instead, which saves you from having that sometimes-annoying lip that can accumulate crud and whatnot.
I tell you what… the options for home remodelling these days are impressive…

  • By all means undermount! Maybe think twice about the old-fashioned double-sink and go for a big, generous, single-bowl.
My wife finds no use whatsoever for the internal division that was once for wash/rinse separation, and it complicates the plumbing trap with a disposer involved.
Also, after being Joe the Plumber for a week I broke down when I found a smokin’ hot deal on a Hansgrohe Metro high arc pull-down spray faucet, down from $400/$500 to less than half – so that’s in there now replacing the POS Price-Pfister rubbish.

  • I actually enjoy having as many divisions in my sink as possible… but then I am still having to wash a fair number of dishes due to our dishwasher being one of the most craptacular things you have ever seen.
Undersinks are definitely better when it comes to aesthetics and cleanliness, but installing them can sometimes be a bear as well. But, in any case, really nice faucets can sometimes make all the difference.
