just so perfect

And the quote of today is this:

“And yet, in all my years of dining out, in Nashville and all around the world, I have YET to be accosted by a criminal carrying a gun in a restaurant.”

I have never broken my leg, therefore it is unbreakable.

As has already been pointed out by SayUncle, the post on which that comment was written is a prime example of delicious irony… On the one hand, Southern Beale is all about women having a choice concerning their bodies, but on the other hand, she is rabidly and vociferously against those same women having a choice defending their bodies. Even better, when this logical inconsistency is pointed out to Southern Beale, the best response she can come up with is calling her detractors “asshats” – yup, the height of hoplophobic debate tactics is name-calling. Nothing new there…
By Southern Beale claiming she is “anti-hypocrite”, she is actually saying, “I’m anti-me,” which might just be the most honest thing she has ever written.

  • Technically, what they are saying is “I have never broken my leg, therefore nobody will ever break theirs” or “I’ve never been in an accident before, therefore seatbelts should be banned”.

  • Yeah, I know, I know, but this was close enough to be worthy of merit.

  • discrimination is discrimination

Noted hoplophobe, anti-rights activist, and general-purpose bigot, Wendi C. Thomas, occasionally has her screeds published in the Commercial Appeal, and today’s helping of bald-faced discrimination and ignorance is certainly no different from her usual…

  • That’s a pretty gross mischaracterization of my post. I’m not against women or anyone defending their bodies. I just don’t think guns and alcohol mix, and guns and CCW definitely do not mix. The list of crimes committed by CCW permit holders is endless. And statistics prove that guns easily get into the wrong hands, are easily misfired, and accidents happen. So leave your guns at home. Protect your body some other way when we’re out drinking.
    ‘k thx bai.
And no, the world is not such a scary place. Really, y’all watch too much television. There are not scary black men wanting to steal your white women around every street corner. It’s OK to leave the gun at home. Honest.

  • If you have anything beyond a tenuous grasp of logic, you would understand that the analogy is far from being a “gross mischaracterization” – in fact, it appears to be 100% accurate. The concepts are similar, and the logical constructs are likewise similar. Of course, the analogy indicates just how ludicrously laughable your position is, so I can understand your opposition to it.
However, analogy aside, your blatant opposition to women’s rights to choice continues to baffle me… If you are against guns and CCW, then you are against women being able to legally defend themselves. If you are against women legally being able to defend themselves, it does not make sense then that you are for women being able to make choices about their bodies. Either they can make choices about their bodies across the board, or they cannot – which is it?
I totally agree with you on one point, however – alcohol and guns do not mix. However, HB0962 does not mix them. It remains against the law to consume alcohol while you are carrying a firearm, despite your intentional and outright misphrasing of the situation whenever you get the opportunity. At this point, you are furiously protesting against a strawman, and it is getting increasingly pathetic the longer you maintain the facade.
Handgun carry permit holders do, indeed, commit crimes… at lower rates than their fellow citizens, and at lower rates than some police departments. No one has ever said that handgun carry permit holders are 100% perfect 100% of the time (I notice you never bothered to answer my challenge at your own webpage), so I guess we should just chalk that up as yet another one of your specious strawmen.
Statistics also prove that cars get into the wrong hands, are easily misused, and accidents happen. What is your point?
I completely fail to see why my right to self-defense should be abridged because you are drinking. Do you suffer from projection much in general, or is it just isolated to firearms?
You might want to remind the 397 folks murdered, 2,174 people raped, 11,022 individuals robbed, and 32,787 citizens assaulted in Tennessee in 2007 ho the world is “not such a scary place”… I do not think the criminals who do exist got the memo.
I do find it very interesting, however, that you were the one to bring up race in this discussion…. why is that, exactly? I could have sworn this was a debate about firearms and self-defense, and race does not really enter into either of those environments, so why did you feel the need to drag it into the forefront? Or should we simply count that as another one of your attempts at misdirection and avoidance of the issues?
So, when we boil it all down, your comment consists of two counts of outright denial, two counts of strawman logical fallacies, two counts of misdirection (including one thinly-veiled count of discrimination), and one count of projection. So sad – you almost rolled doubles in all categories – surely you can do better!
