Taken through the window of my apartment, so excuse the poor quality:
They appear to be chowing down on the flying insects (not ants) that are infesting our potted plants on our porch. That is perfectly acceptable, and something we would like to encourage, really. Nesting behavior, however, will not be encouraged…
Looks like a male Cassin’s Finch.
Sounds about right to me.
