Botach Tactical has what I would politely describe as a “rudimentary” webpage – as ecommerce sites go, it is about as bare-bones as you can possibly get and still have images. However, they were running a 10% off sale this past week, and I decided to give them a shot on something that was cheaper at their site to begin with, and a lot cheaper after the -10%.
Well, their webpage does not appear to have any method of letting you know whether or not an item is in stock, at least not that I can see. Some products do not have the “Buy/RFQ” button, which could be implying that the products are not in stock, but that is about the only thing I can think of. I pushed the “Buy” button on four items, assumed they were in stock, and kept going about my life…
This morning, I got an email indicating that two of those four items were out of stock, and not being shipped. Of course, which two items were being shipped was somewhat hard to ascertain from the poorly-formatted email and stranger notations. I emailed them back asking if those items would be backordered, and this is the response I received:

These items we did not have in stock and were removed from the order. You were not charged for the items. If the items do become available you will have to place a new order for them. The items have not been placed on back order.

Uhm, how, exactly, am I supposed to know if an item is in stock or not if your webpage does not tell me? Do you honestly expect me to put in an order every day to see if it is in stock, or to call you every day to see if you have gotten your shipments in?
Sorry, folks. In these days of ecommerce and instant information, I am going to take my money to someone who actually has a webpage that semi-accurately reflects their stock information, much less a company that has actually heard of this thing called “backorder”.

  • A trained fricking monkey would provide a better webpage than the one they have now… You could do them wonders, but given their low prices, I would imagine that their profit margin is fairly low, and they cannot even afford the trained monkey…
