New reason to hate revenue cameras (otherwise referred to as “red light cameras”): the ones in my region use LIDAR to determine if you are running a red light, and apparently their systems are always active. Every time I drive past one, even when the light is green, my radar/LIDAR detector just about makes me jump out of my skin by loudly and creatively informing me that my car is being painted by a laser.

I just learned the other day that apparently in Phoenix the red light cameras are now pulling double duty as speed cameras. Even if the light is green, they’ll snap your photo for speeding. And, of course, they also record video 24/7.
My town is installing both red light cameras and speed cameras, the latter of which they are already touting as being even more useful, since they can count cars going by… yeah, and probably record license plate numbers and track how many times you pass X location.
It is amazing how much we have signed over to an exploitable, unproven, and buggy piece of technology… The folks who designed those things are laughing all the way to the bank.
I read a story a while back about high schoolers getting even with people who they had problems with…so they started putting fake plates on their vehicles and sped past speed cameras.
…I wonder if those who voted for the cameras have ticket immunity…

Yeah, read the same news report, Kurt. I certainly would not put it past some high schoolers out here, much less some of the supposed “adults”.
I would be more wondering if those who voted for the revenue cameras are getting a piece of the pie…
I used to be on call 24/7 and got in the habit of putting the pager and/or cell phone on vibrate so I’d know someone was looking for me during the commute (I couldn’t hear them over the bikes engine noise).
Every time I got paged while riding I’d damn near jump out of my skin. Stopped doing that before it crashed me.
Yup, same exact thing (though with potentially less-disastrous results, given the four wheels as opposed to two). The screeching my detector makes when it gets lased is just amazing, and certainly gets one’s attention. Stupid revenue cameras…
