terminated

I am a little behind the curve on this, but Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (otherwise known as Summer Glau Kicks Everyone’s Asses) will not be returning for a third season. I cannot say as though I am terribly surprised, and Lanie’s webpage adequately documents why – no one watches live television on Friday nights any more, and that is all Fox executives are concerned about. DVRs, Hulu, and everything else do not make sufficient amounts of advertising money, so they are not counted.
In other news, I am apparently quite out of touch with modern music, given that it turns out that Shirley Manson, the actress who played the evil T2-generation Terminator, is actually some hard-rock singer or something. Shows how much I pay attention.
At least Eureka is supposed to be back in July. Hopefully.

  • I terminated my viewing of the show after the first one this season. It just didn’t have the same oomph as the previous season, which I had already started tiring of.
There’s only so much a person can go blow up stuff and shoot people before the entire FBI does nothing but look for them. Living lavishly in a furnished home simply would be impossible.
    Summer rocks though.

  • By way of a story, it stopped mattering a long time ago. By way of watching Summer Glau… yeah, I pretty much just kept it around for that.
As for the “I believe” button… if they had been able to pay for everything in cash, it might have been believable. But not really.

  • There are many shows that I like but for some reason can’t keep up with. There’s too much shit on in the prime time spots when I can actually watch, and all the good things seem to be on when I’m least likely to be home.
Television people need to aggressively pursue new methods for producing and distributing media and profiting on it. Not least because once they can figure out how to do more, with less, and make it worthwhile…
Well I’m still holding on to hope for a Firefly return.

  • Heh, with BSG gone, Terminator going away, and even Chuck possibly sliding off into the abyss, I am honestly running out of things to watch.
However, you are absolutely correct – TiVo (and all the other DVR systems out there), Hulu, and any other form of delayed-watching of television is pretty much the future. For the network executives to say that a television show is “failing” because it has a limited prime-time, real-time following, but a massive DVR/delayed-time following, demonstrates a marked lack of understanding on their part. Of course, people will cling to what they know, but there comes a time when one must adapt to the changing climate, or make way for your replacements.
As for Firefly, Whedon has pretty much said it is not going to happen. You might want to look into Into the Black, but they seem to have been “almost ready to go” for years now.
