Ever since last Wednesday, left-wing news/media/weblogs/commenters have been desperately and incessantly attempting to demonize, demean, and diminish the Tea Parties held on Tax Day, in addition to those fools/misguided souls/idiots/malcontents/etc. who dared to attend them. Allegations and accusations of racism, hatred, intolerance, stupidity, ignorance, anti-American-ism, fomenting rebellion, and many, many other things have flown thick and fast ever since over half a million concerned Americans took to the streets to express their displeasure in what their government is doing.
One of the more prevalent, recurring, and annoying themes, however, basically boils down to, “ZOMG! Obamamessiah has promised tax cuts to 95% of Americans!! What are you doing out here protesting your taxes if you are getting tax cuts!? Go home! Disperse! Stop dissenting!”
Well, in their own minds, they are pretty much right – President Barack Hussein Obama has promised a tax cut of $400 a year for each working individual, and these tax cuts only apply to families who make less than $250,000 a year. Roughly estimated, that comes to approximately 95% of all Americans.
Unfortunately, that is only half the story.
Simultaneous to these tax cuts, our glorious President is pushing for a “cap and trade” plan that will cause all Americans’ electric bills to increase:
“You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.”
- President Barack Hussein Obama
Yes, our glorious President said “skyrocket”.
Simultaneous to these tax cuts, our glorious President is encouraging organizations like the EPA to captialize on his induced global warming hysteria:
Since EPA plans to find endangerment on both health and welfare grounds, the Agency could be compelled to establish “primary” (health-based) NAAQS for GHGs. Logically, the standard would be set below current atmospheric levels. Even very stringent emission limitations applied worldwide over a century would likely be insufficient to lower GHG concentrations. Yet the CAA requires EPA to ensure attainment of primary NAAQS within five or at most 10 years—and it forbids EPA to take costs into account. Regulate CO2 under the NAAQS program and there is, in principle, no economic hardship that could not be imposed on the American people.
Discarding the double negatives, the last sentence pretty much says that, under the National Ambient Air Quality Standards rulemaking, the EPA could impose on the American people whatever financial burden it felt necessary for general “health and welfare”.
Simultaneous to these tax cuts, our glorious President is pushing for a $6,000,000,000 national service program… Six billion dollars that will have to be paid by someone – namely, the American taxpayer.
Simultaneous to these tax cuts, our glorious President signed legislation more than doubling the taxes on cigarettes, after promising no “form of tax increase” for any family making less than $250,000 a year.
Simultaneous to these tax cuts, our glorious President was able to maintain his agenda in the form of a $3,500,000,000,000 budget for the House and Senate… 3.5 trillion dollars that will have to be paid by someone – namely, the American taxpayer.
Simultaneous to these tax cuts, our glorious President has lead our government into spending $2,500,000,000,000 and committing $12,100,000,000,000 in the form of “bailout funds”… 12.1 trillion dollars that will have to be paid by someone – namely, the American taxpayer.
Hold on to that $13 extra a week that the government “lets” you keep – they will be asking for it back sometime here in the near future.
And that is the logical disconnect of the name-callers and detractors that I simply do not understand… the government does not make money – it takes money from citizens, from commerce, from businesses, from everything it can get its grubby little mits into. Oh, sure, it can just randomly start printing more money and injecting it into the economy, but guess what happens when the government does that? Devaluation, right off the bat. As if we needed another reason to have a suffering economy.
So what happens if we spend in record amounts, but act like we are decreasing taxes (i.e. the revenue stream for the government)? Well, I will leave the example as an exercise for the reader, but suffice to say that the answer is why the people were protesting at the Tea Parties, whether their detractors are willing to recognize it or not.
Oh, yeah, and those “tax cuts”? They only affect 75% of Americans, not the advertised 95%.

watch both hands
Unsurprisingly, the “Control and Tax”… er… I mean… “Cap and Trade” bill pass the House early Friday morning last week. Even more unsurprisingly, the bill passed even before our duly-elected Representatives had a chance to read all 1390-odd pages …
