you are doing it right

While writers at the Commercial Appeal are trying to conflate law-abiding citizens with murderers, expose their bigotry at every available opportunity, and be as anti-bipartisanship, anti-firearms, anti-firearm-owners, anti-reality, anti-self-defense, and anti-Second-Amendment as they can be, some journalists actually remember what their jobs are, and perform them surprisingly well. One such example would be Mr. Joel Davis, from The Daily Times out of Maryville, and his article concerning the many gun-related bills in our current Tennessee General Assembly.
I am not going to copy-paste the entire thing here, but suffice to say that Mr. Davis presented the dark history of bills that would have expanded handgun carry permit holder rights (in that they died mysterious deaths in committees); provided a list of all the bills up for grabs, including carrying in restaurants (but he stressed that property owners would still be able to post their property off limits, and drinking alcohol while carrying is still quite illegal), record confidentiality, and handguns in parks; gave both sides of the debate a voice (in the form of Representative Joe McCord and David Perry (who owns Gunny’s Indoor Shooting Range in Maryville) for the pro-rights voices, and Frank Gibson (executive director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government) for the antis); and never once delved into pointless hoplophobia, bigotry, or conflation. For this relatively middle-of-the-road reporting, free of any sensationalistic editorial comments, I certainly thank Mr. Davis.
Regarding the content of the article, I, too, was somewhat surprised by the number of firearm-related bills coming before the House and Senate this year, but I can only imagine that it is an outgrowth of the attention some anti-rights organizations have fabricated over their senseless and pointless invasion of law-abiding citizens’ privacy, coupled with our new, anti-firearms President, and the fact that our anti-firearms ex-Speaker-of-the-House is now (mostly) out of the way in the Tennessee House. That said, many of the bills were obviously redundant, and covered the same ground over and over again – do legislators not compare notes, or look at what their co-workers have proposed, before they start fielding their ideas?
At any rate, it is good to see that there are still journalists who can report on the news dispassionately and comprehensively, whether they happen to agree with what they are reporting on or not – after all, that is their job.
