Ok, this is just more than a little freaky:
The mayor said there is another option – and that would be declaring martial law. The governor would have to declare it and then the National Guard would come in. The mayor said it’s more for a transition to a new police force if that were to happen.
What is the mayor talking about? Mass unrest? Food riots? Bank runs? The zombie apocalypse?
Not exactly.
It would appear as though the police force of Schenectady, New York, has two officers who are on charges for DUIs, and another four officers who are on charges ranging from assault and battery to the police equivalent of “absent without leave”. The police chief’s response seems appropriate – punish those who did wrong (preferably by getting rid of them outright), and keep moving.
The mayor’s response? Consider disbanding the police force, having the governor call in the National Guard, and running the city under martial law (temporarily, of course) until such time as a new police force can be created.
Uh, holy crap. Does anyone else see a problem with calling in the National Guard and declaring martial law, simply because a group of civil servants could not do their job? Anyone?

Duh! The National Guard is very expensive, but ACORN will do it for free – they just got paid already!
Erf… try not to give them any ideas, Dirtcrashr… they are already doing a damned good job ruining our country as we speak.
I have been discussing this with WordsTwice and he wrote a long post over at Brillianter.
