Current candidates for being yet another thing my belt supports:
CRKT Crawford Triumph N.E.C.K.
CRKT Kommer I.F.B.
CRKT Hammond A.B.C. Operator
Ka-Bar Large TDI
Blackhawk! Razorback Trocar
Hideaway Knife 440c Tiger Claw (Supposedly, the Hideaway Knife company is still in operation (at least according to the email I received from the purported owner), but given their reviews on various websites across the ‘net, I would recommend against dealing with them directly.)
Cold Steel Scottish Spike
So many options… Anyone with any experience with these, or other suggestions, is welcome to speak up. Oh, and people really seem to be underestimating the klutziness of my left hand – believe me when I say that relying on it to open a folding knife, in a self-defense situation, is a surefire way for me to do more harm to myself than the bad guy was.
In other news, it amazes me how expensive knives can get.

  • I’ve had good luck right along with HideAwayKnife, but did learn early on that you order from “Available Now” and don’t special-order anything. They have too good and unique a product for me to reject them completely.
Typical ship time for production knives I’ve ordered has been a week to ten days. I have four of them.

Yeah, to be fair, all of the significantly negative reviews I read about Hideaway stemmed from the way they handled their custom-order system. From what I understand, they were still taking custom orders for knife smiths that had clearly and forcefully cut ties with the company some time ago, yet Hideaway was still promising to deliver. That kind of business practice gives me the heebiejeebies, and is something I think I would rather steer clear of.
Good to hear that you like them, though… what profiles did you go with? Unfortunately, for their somewhat substantial price, I think I can get something that will better suit my needs for cheaper… Of course, some part of me wants one before they disappear, but then my credit card slaps me upside the back of my head…

One of the advantages of taking a vacation in the back hills of the Sevierville region (pictures to follow once I look through them) is that you almost have to drive past the Smokey Mountain Knife Works coming or going….
