Since I recognized a few websites and people last week, I may as well keep up the trend this week.
A few years back, when I was shopping around for materials and equipment to clean and maintain the few firearms I had back then, I happened to stumble across Militec-1, and all of the glowing reviews surrounding it. After reading through all of the various documentation surrounding it, and the seeming universal approval, I figured “what the hell” and went to make an order. My interest in procuring this mysterious substance was only increased when I discovered that the owners sold it to active duty military members at a significant discount – I could live with that.
After placing the order, a representative from the company got in touch with me, and inquired if I was going to be deploying in the near future. Given that I was about to head out to the Persian Gulf with my last ship, I replied in the affirmative, and the representative informed me that my order would be expedited to me, and that the entire order – shipping, handling, and items – would be free of charge. I emailed back to confirm this amazing offer, and the representative indicated that they firmly supported the men and women serving in the military today, and they considered their free shipments nothing more than a “thank you”, and their way of making quantifiable the nebulous concept of “support”.
Ever since, I have used Militec-1 on every firearm I own, and have never once had a complaint about it. After following their firearms application instructions, I have found the barrels of my firearms less-fouled after trips to the shooting range, and significantly easier to clean when I get home. Using it as a straight-up lubricant, I have never had any difficulty with any of the moving parts on my firearms.
So what is this stuff? Well, not being a chemist, I have no idea, but their webpage provides some explanation:
MILITEC-1 is a chemically reacted synthetic-based hydrocarbon derivative metal conditioner that protects metal with a constant synthetic-based impregnated molecular bond. MILITEC-1 has a flash point of 410oF, a pour point of –45oF, an autoignition temperature of 715oF with a viscosity equal to a SAE 10 weight oil that is clear in appearance. MILITEC-1 contains no solids, PTFE’s, solvents, metals, fluorine, chlorinated paraffins, and does not require agitation before use. MILITEC-1 is also non-hazardous, non-toxic, non-combustible and is approved environmentally on board U.S. Navy submarines.
And what does it do?
MILITEC-1 protects metal surfaces with a constant impregnated molecular bond of synthetic-based hydrocarbon derivatives which will not change any tolerances inside or outside of weapons. MILITEC-1 works within the molecular structure and micropores of metal and non-metallic surfaces of weapons.
All said, that works for me.
For those of you still in active duty, the folks at Militec have a contact page up for you to request a free supply for you and your unit, and after talking with the police officer who helped me assemble Janus (and who also served over in Iraq for a time), Militec definitely comes through on those requests.
Unfortunately, I am no longer eligible for the active-duty military discount or free pre-deployment shipments; however, I will definitely still purchase Militec in the future, if only to support them in providing, free of charge, a fine product (as far as I can tell) to the men and women serving in our armed forces.
