On the one hand, we have our duly-elected representatives trying to make President-Elect Barack Hussein Obama king for life, and trying to reinstate the draft, and on the other hand, we have them doing something actually useful, like trying to establish a national reciprocity for law-abiding concealed carry permit holders:
National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009 – Amends the federal criminal code to establish a national standard for the carrying of concealed firearms (other than a machinegun or destructive device) by non-residents. Authorizes a person who has a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in one state and who is not prohibited from carrying a firearm under federal law to carry a concealed firearm in another state in accordance with the restrictions of that state or as specified under this Act.
Speaking personally, I was forced to go unarmed for some of our Christmas vacation, simply because Washington state does not bother to have reciprocity with Tennessee (why, I am not entirely sure). H.R. 197 would standardize reciprocity amongst all of the various states that have concealed carry permits, meaning that I could legally carry my pistol in any other state with a licensing system, so long as I am doing so in accordance with local laws. Basically, this would cut out the cumbersome and occasionally stupid method by which states forge reciprocity agreements, and us law-abiding folks who happen to be interested in defending ourselves would no longer have to worry about this state honoring our license and that state not.
My only questions are how this new law would influence “may-issue” states (like Kalifornistan), in addition to those two states without any licensing system at all (Vermont and Alaska)?
At any rate, it would probably be worth it to get in touch with your national representatives and explain to them how much you would like this particular bill to be passed. Granted, given President-Elect Barack Hussein Obama’s strong stance against pepole being able to use firearms in defensive situations, as well as his stance against lawful concealed carry in general, I doubt this particular resolution would ever be passed into law… but just having it show up on his desk would be a nice nudge in the ribs.
