The worst part about “gun buy-backs” like these is that the people involved could have gotten significantly more money for the firearms had they sold them to a gun dealer, much less to private, interested parties. I mean, come on – a $100 gift card for “a Soviet-era semiautomatic carbine”? There is probably some collector somewhere who might have willingly parted with an order of magnitude more, depending on what exactly it was…
And will these firearms be sold off by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to try and rescue Kalifornistan from its bankruptcy and recover the costs for the gift cards? Nope, they are going to be destroyed, costing the taxpayers even more money.
So here we have pieces of American and international history willingly destroyed, people being taken as suckers by their state’s government, and that state government further driving itself into insolvency, all in one conveniently-packaged news article. How sad is that?
