Well, I went ahead and did it today – I got my happy ass in line for a Del-Ton Inc. 16in. Mid-Length Custom Upper. Granted, Sarah quoted me a turnaround time of about four months, so I am going to keep working with some other, smaller shops I have found online, but at least my name is on a list somewhere, and it might eventually work out. Sitting here, watching the list get longer and longer was just plain disconcerting.
Anywise, the full explanation is that I ordered an upper with a 16in., 1×9, mid-length gas, chrome-lined, M-4 feedramps, heavy barrel, chrome bolt and carrier, rifle-length Yankee Hill Machine 4-rail lightweight free-float handguards, YHM Spectre gas block, no flash hider (I already have a Brownell’s version to install), flat-top upper with M4 feedramps, and a standard charging handle with a Badger Tac-Latch.
Couple that with my DPMS lower, CAA buttstock, and MagPul MIAD grip, as well as a lower parts kit that is still on order, and I might just have myself an operable AR-15.
