You know, it is asinine, ignorant, idiotic, and racist gos-se like this that really gets on my nerves sometimes.
First, did the author give a crap about Mrs. Bush, or Mrs. Clinton, or Mrs. Bush (wait a second…), or any of the other First Ladies? Of course not. This kind of idiotic claptrap only comes up because Mrs. Obama just happens to have a skin tone a few shades darker than folks like me. It is always interesting how racism against people of Caucasian descent is not only tolerated, but encouraged…
Second, the concept of a “First Lady” is neither a job, nor a title. Mrs. Obama could sit on her happy ass for the next four years, and that would be her perogative. Contrariwise, she could flit all over the country, giving talks and meetings and planning to save the gorramed world, and that would still be her perogative. But if she expects to get paid for it, she is as much a blithering idiot as the author of the previously-linked article.
We, as American citizens, elect Presidents – if that President is not married, them’s the breaks, and if he/she is, congratulations, his/her wife/husband gets to live in some once-burned museum for four years, but that, ladies and gentlemen, is the extent of it. The spouse of the President is not the designated host/hostess – they have event planners and coordinators for that purpose these days. The spouse of the President is not the proxy for the President – we did not elect the spouse, and thus he/she has absolutely no standing in the government, whatsoever. And the spouse of the President can make all of the contributions, donations, and efforts for her/his husband’s/wife’s administration that she/he so desires – but if she/he wants to get paid for something, then get a bloody real job. I am quite certain there is some not-proud-of-America corporation or think tank or lobbying group somewhere in the D.C. metropolitan area that would be more than willing to take Mrs. Obama onboard.
For the love of small, furry gerbils, folks, America is bankrupt (hat tip to Free in Idaho!), and you want to throw more of my and your taxpayer money at someone who does not actually have a job in the US government? Well, considering the “success” of Welfare, I should not be too surprised at that mentality…
Of course, I guess the line “I don’t remember voting for you,” has not worked out so well in the past, either…
