questioning attitude

Ok, I admit it… I do not pay a lot of attention to this kind of thing, which is why I am asking. Has anyone ever seen this kind of display from a motorcade taking the President-Elect to the gym before:

For that matter, has anyone ever seen that kind of display from a Presidential motorcade, period? I mean, should the situation warrant it, certainly… but driving through Chicago? Well, actually, it might just be necessary there… Regardless, I full well understand that kind of hardware, and more, is always on/near the Secret Service agents protecting their primary, but I just do not recall it being so… obvious? Additionally, I somehow doubt the hardware that agent is handling will fall under the promised “Assault Weapon Ban” – funny, that.
Additionally, am I the only one bothered by this:

Locked away in his Chicago home, Mr Obama received his first national security intelligence briefing yesterday as he wrestled with appointments for his Cabinet.

His house, I suspect, is far from secure… his windows/walls are almost definitely not insulated enough to block out listening devices, and I would wager significant amounts of money that building has been under surveillance for quite some time now. I have no doubt the Secret Service protecting him swept the building for bugs and local devices, but those are not the only ways to listen in to a room or structure any more. Unless this “briefing” was nothing more than, “Hi, these are the gisters you are going to be working with for the next four years,” why does this whole thing sound like a very bad idea to me?
