just a useless piece of paper

I did not watch the Vice-Presidential debate, I admit it. Our apartment simply does not have enough alcohol in it to have made me willing to sit through it. However, in reading up on it today, it seems things fell out about the way everyone predicted. On the one hand, the Democrats are loudly and widely proclaiming victory... but, face it - unless Senator Joe Biden had stripped down to his knickers and tried molesting the moderator (or worse (for him), Governor Sarah Palin), the Democrats would still be declaring victory. Hell, they might even claim it then. On the other hand, the Republicans are ... well ... not quite as loudly or as widely proclaiming victory, but in their case, Palin was going up against someone who has been effectively running for Vice President for the past 20 years. Like most things in life, experience matters in politics.

However, The Liberty Sphere hit on what I consider to be the most important portion of the debate - the segment where Senator Joe Biden made his complete and utter ignorance of the Constitution known. How? Well, here is what Article 1, Section 3 of the United States Constitution says:

The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.

And this is what Senator Joe Biden had to say for himself:

Vice President Cheney has been the most dangerous vice president we've had probably in American history. The idea he doesn't realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that's the Executive Branch. He works in the Executive Branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that.

And the primary role of the vice president of the United States of America is to support the president of the United States of America, give that president his or her best judgment when sought, and as vice president, to preside over the Senate, only in a time when in fact there's a tie vote. The Constitution is explicit.

The only authority the vice president has from the legislative standpoint is the vote, only when there is a tie vote. He has no authority relative to the Congress. The idea he's part of the Legislative Branch is a bizarre notion invented by Cheney to aggrandize the power of a unitary executive and look where it has gotten us. It has been very dangerous.

So what about "President of the Senate" does Senator Joe Biden not understand?

The scary thought is how this is all falling out: on one ticket, we have both a Constitutional law teacher who has used that knowledge and education to find all of the loopholes and workarounds he possibly can, whether they exist or not, and a plagiarizing lawyer who does not have the foggiest of clues what the Constitution actually says. And people want me to help vote these putzes into the offices of President and Vice President?

Yeah. Fat chance of that.

Senator Joe Biden lies. 1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY. 2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he... Read More

Just who is they and what did they try to hide? Very good questions. 'They' is the Democrats, especially the Obama team, and the 'what' is the video that proves this financial fiasco can be laid at their front doorstep. [Here's the video] Read More

You really hit the nail on the head when you referred to Obama as "a Constitutional law teacher who has used that knowledge and education to find all of the loopholes and workarounds he possibly can, whether they exist or not." It is the very fact that Obama was a constitutional law professor yet chooses to undermine the 2nd Amendment that I find so troubling. Other uninformed legislators who violate the 2nd Amendment can at least claim ignorance, but not Obama.

It is kind of sad that in Obama's case, all of that expensive and time-consuming education has gone to such a complete waste.

But you are right - in most politicians' cases, when they abridge or ignore the Constitution, they might be able to claim ignorance (though, as with most things, that is no excuse). However, in Obama's case, there is no doubt - his attacks on Constitutional rights stem from complete and utter maliciousness.

*heh* I turned to my Wonder Woman and noted (heck, I crowed) "GAFFE! More evidence Biden cheated his way through law school!" when he uttered that fatuous remark about the constitutional role of the VP. (Not thaT I'm a lawyer or a constitutional scholar or anything, but I have read the thing and did audit a class taught by someone who actually had... and who went on to serve with more honor than Biden or Obama in the U.S. Senate.)

*sheesh!*

And you noticed The Obamassiah's criterion for constitutional amendments in the Saddleback interview, didn't you? Ann Coulter's recent analysis is better than what I said when I read the transcript. By B. Hussein Obama-Winfrey's criterion, the 13th Amendment has no place in our Constitution. *heh*

A couple of dangerously ignorant and arrogant asses are Barry and Blowhard Joe.

It is astonishing to me that a politician and lawyer like Biden would make such an obviously erroneous statement concerning the Constitution, and go on at such length about it. I mean, these people make a job of working with the Constitution, and yet they have absolutely no idea what it says? Comforting, that.

"Ignorant" is putting it very mildly.
