gun blogger rendezvous 2008

Yessiree, ladies and gentlemen, I will be there!
You heard right – amazingly enough, despite moving twice in the past three months, despite employment being up in the air, and despite having to cross the country, I will actually be attending the Gun Blogger Rendezvous this year. To be fair, however, this is thanks entirely to Traction Control and some unused airline miles he had laying about. As such, you will have to forgive me if this webpage does a little stumping for Traction Control, his commercial site, and his sizeable collection of hand guns, long guns, magazines, knives, optics, and other fun things for sale.
At any rate, I am more than a little excited to finally meet him, along with Mr. Completely, Phil and David, Ride Fast and his Better Half, Sebastian, Dirtcrashr, Uncle, and everyone else attending this year… And the facts that Crimson Trace is sponsoring this year’s event, the NRA will be sending a few minions to help with the wheelbarrows full of cash they are bringing, and the proeceeds from this year’s GBR will go to Project Valour-IT makes the whole event even more shiny.
As for me, I will be toting along my little PPS, along with my M1A SOCOM II (Thankfully, I probably will not have to take advantage of this generous offer by Hi-Capacity Gun Works)… Unless anyone has an overwhelming urge to fondle it, the Baby Eagle will probably be staying home, though.
Two favors to ask, however. Thanks to Traction Control, getting to the airport in Reno is not going to be a problem. However, getting from the airport to the hotel… well, that is a bit farther than I would like to walk, toting a Pelican case that obviously does not hold golf clubs. To any of my fellow attendees who are lucky enough to either drive to the GBR, or rent a car, I would surely appreciate a lift back to the barn. My second favor to request is in the same vein… 5 pounds of ammunition is not much, if I can even get that much into the case with the SOCOM and PPS. If anyone is headed over to a gun store in the Reno area (maybe to pick up their babies from HCGW), I would love to piggy-back along and pick up a few pieces of metal to send downrange (conversely, if you are driving into the GBR, and willing to take me on my word, if you were to bring a few extra boxes of 9mm and .308 (leave a comment to work out the details), I would have absolutely no problems paying you back).
All said, this should be a mighty fine shindig… see you all there!

  • HooRah! Looking forward to meeting you.
We’re driving up so if our schedules roughly match I can give you a ride. I could probably pick up some ammo for you, the local store has most everything.
Then again, I’m usually in the mood to visit a gun shop so hitting some place in Reno would almost certainly work, too.
Shoot me an email with your schedule and welcome to GBR-III.

  • Great News!! Looking forward to meeting you in person.
The Circus Circus runs a free shuttle every 30 minutes from the airport to the hotel and back, so you won’t get stuck there, anyway.
I’ve been thinking about the Baby Desert Eagle as a possible starting point for an open class steel challenge gun. I’ll be interested to hear what you have to say about it…..
    …. Mr. C.

  • Likewise, RideFast :) .
I will drop you an email and see what we can work out. Stupid airline restrictions…
And thanks for the shuttle heads-up, Mr. C. That would certainly make life a little easier.
As for the Baby Eagle, is that a “I’ll be interested to hear what you have to say about it so bring it along,” or do you just want to talk about it? Unfortunately, I know precisely zip about competitive shooting, but I might say a useful thing or two about the firearm itself.

  • Unfortunately I’m stuck on the fence, or the horns of a dilemma – or something.

  • Dude, if you do not make it, considering the strings I had to pull this time around, I will not be amused… ;)

  • Maybe my wife will give me some money. ;-) God how I hate casinos and hotels though – didn’t realize how much until last year because I never, ever, go there.

  • Well, that is pretty much how I am swinging it… ;) .
And, trust me, I have no plans, whatsoever, of stopping by the casino portion of the CircusCircus, or any other hotel in Reno. There are so many more entertaining ways to spend my money… like sending little bits of metal downrange at high velocities :) .
