You. Have. GOT. To. Be. Kidding. Me.
That is the title of the next installment of James Bond? "Quantum of Solace"?!?
What the hell is next? "Modicum of Consolation"? "Iota of Lethargy"? "Measure of Mundanity"?
I have said it before, and I will say it again: the new Casino Royale, complete with the undeniably atrocious Daniel Craig, was not worth the two hours I spent watching it. And with a title like this, the next iteration of the continuing Daniel Craig travesty can only be worse, which, when Casino Royale was so horrendous, will require the use of tactical nuclear devices to excavate an even deeper hole for this new "direction" of James Bond to travel.
I made the mistake of watching the previous movie simply for the "James Bond" name - thankfully, I occasionally (occasionally...) learn from my mistakes, and will not even come close to wasting the money this time around.

It sucks to see them ruin a perfectly good tits-and-bullet franchise and turn it into rubble and ash - but for me the real Bond will always be Connery.
If Spielberg can remake 30's Action features in the Indiana Jones venue why can't somebody do the 50's and cold-war secret agent stuff??
Well, I will admit it - I have never actually read Mr. Flemmings' books, and I really probably should one of these days. As such, I guess I do not know how Bond is "supposed" to go.
However, as for the Bond movies, Daniel Craig is the worst possible thing that could have ever happened to them.
I definitely agree... if we can remake Indy with the same feeling and quality and style, why not just go back to the Connery style of Bond (which performed quite well, as just about everyone konws), update it with modern toys, special effects, and actors, and go from there? Seems to be working pretty well...
In the books Bond is presented as more ruthless and mean than suave and debonair. I imagine a bit more like Mike Hammer's nasty P.I. than Roger Moore's cool and flippant spy - in the old-school 50's style like Hammer in the 1955 "Kiss Me Deadly."
... yup, wrong generation, DirtCrashr ;).
I got hooked on Bond by virtue of my parents and grandparents. But I cannot say as though I am familiar with Mike Hammer or "Kiss Me Deadly". I will, however, make sure I see it sometime soon.
Linoge -- go grab yourself a copy of the BOOK by Ian Fleming "For Your Eyes Only" and READ it. It's a collection of his James Bond short stories. If you liked Frederick Forsyth's "No Comebacks" collection (IMO his finest work outside of "Day of the Jackal" and "Dogs of War") then you'll like this book.
And yes, the reason so many folks like myself went apeshit over the Craig-as-Bond Casino Royale was that it was arguably CLOSER to the Bond Fleming wrote, as far as character, than even Connery's version. Three words: brutal, amoral bastard.
Oh, and "Quantum of Solace" is the last title of any of the original novels or stories that they haven't used for a movie. I'd imagine there's some contractual requirement with the Fleming estate about that.
Yeah, like I said, I need to actually read the books... As for Craig, he honestly did not come across as that way to me. More often than not, he looked just plain clueless... Sure, he reflexively and remorselessly killed a few guys, and got all mean and badass at the end, but the rest of his acting was just a big yawn-fest to me - something that has been consistent for every role I have seen him in.
As for the name, I guess I cannot fault the movie-makers if it is one of Mr. Fleming's titles... but, still, I can fault him for picking something so... dumb?
