scum of the earth

I have no love for the ACLU. Given that I love America, enjoy our rights and freedoms, and have no joy over a nanny state, that should go without saying. I would expound upon this lack of love more often, but another site does a damned good job of that by itself, and I would never measure up. However, some things are deserving of a little time and publicity.
It would seem as though the ACLU is attempting to drag our soldiers and sailors through the mud. Again. Repeatedly. And as much as I dislike the ACLU, I wholeheartedly love the men and women serving in our armed forces – they are working, living, and dying to protect our freedoms, and the freedoms enjoyed by those around the world. In my eyes, there can be no greater calling, or more worthy sacrifice.
What does the ACLU think of their efforts, though? Well, they think highly enough of them to release a 10,000 page report (remember, your tax money paid for some low level functionary to sit down and type all of that, and God knows it took damned near forever) documenting all of a scant few of events that they consider to be war crimes, while simultaneously providing the liberals of America and our enemies abroad sufficient wadding to stuff their anti-America and anti-US-Armed-Forces cannons tight for the next few months. Events that have, by and large, already been publicized and addressed. Events that are the unforutnate, natural byproduct of war. Sherman was right – war is hell, and hellacious things happen. However, for some beurocratic, snot-nosed paper-pusher to look back on those events with 20/20 hindsight and proclaim them to be atrocities, simply to gain the headlines of the day, and boost their image in the eyes of their friends? That is disgusting, pure and simple. For that matter, when did it become the ACLU’s job to be an international tribune? I assume, since they have taken this yoke upon themselves, they will soon be levying charges against the Iranian insurgents operating in Iraq for all of the horrific things they have done to the civilians there. Or perhaps against Iran itself for supplying those insurgents with weapons to be used against our military, during a time of war.
I will not be holding my breath on either.
Stop the ACLU had a post a while back illustrating ten reasons to stop the ACLU. I would order them differently, but, regardless, number three is particularly relevant at this time. This organization was never American, and it was never about protecting our civil liberties.
