people of the gun

So it appears that Laura Washington has once again launched into one of her (in)famous anti-gun tirades. So many other pro-gun weblogs out there have fisked her into next month, so I am not even going to bother going there... However, she did provide an interesting inspiration for something.

What would you say to a tshirt/sweatshirt/hat/sticker/button/magnet/etc. with this image upon it:

I just threw that together, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know. Give it a bit (and actual interest), and it might actually find its way onto CafePress...

1100 26SEP07 Update: Holy crap. Generate up a simple little image, post a few links in a few weblogs, and 12 hours later, this single post has accounted for over 100 hits, and is rapidly encroaching on 200+. I guess I can live with that. So how do things stand now? Once I get home today, the above image will be moved into a CafePress shop, address yet unknown - it will be posted as soon as I have it. Once that is completed, I (along with some much-needed help from Robb) will embark upon meeting the suggestions/outright-demands of all the people who have stopped by. Currently, the list stands at: 1911 (the one already made), revolver, shotgun, rifle, EBR, and Glock. They will be addressed in the order received, so those of you near the end of the list may be waiting a bit. Oh, and before you all get too greedy, I have no problems with making up images for all the different varieties of firearms out there, but when it comes down to creating images for each make, much less each model... Yeah, you are either going to help, or wait a very long time. Sorry folks, I will certainly do what I can, but I only have so much time. As it is, we will leave it at the current revolver/auto-pistol/plastic-pistol/shotgun/rifle/EBR categories (assuming no one else can come up with any glaring omissions), see how they fare in terms of purchases and interest, and then go from there. More information (like web addresses, prices, etc.) to follow!

1300 26SEP07 Update: In those instances where it is possible, should anything be on the backs of these items?

2100 26SEP07 Update: Behold the People of the Gun store! Have at it, ladies and gentlepeople! First off, we have the 1911.

1400 27SEP07 Update: And now to add to the club, we have a wheelgun image for all of you revolver-types out there.

Additionally, since we have expanded a little, I have updated the link for the People of the Gun store itself.

The bad news is that Laura Washington is back writing again. You know, the ignorant hoplophobe who wants to disarm all law-abiding Americans, and who was the driving force behind the founding of the People of the Gun? Yeah, that... Read More

Oh, now that is AWESOME. I'll take a t-shirt and a coffee mug too!

If it had a revolver on it, it would be perfect.

Ahab: Well, it would be a matter of about 30 minutes (once I get back home today, that is) to make another image with a revolver on it, and I could easily offer both on CafePress. That said, while I considered it a relatively safe bet to use the 1911 frame as the typical semi-automatic pistol, what revolver would be equally appropriate? I confess my knowledge of wheelguns is somewhat lacking.

the pistolero: Thankfully, CafePress offers both products. I will let you know when they are online!

Why stop there? People of the shotGun, People of the rimfireGun, ummm, People of the Rifle?

C'mon folks, celebrate diversity! ;-)

Ahab - RE: revolver. Maybe a 4 inch S&W Model 19 or 29? In silhouette I'm sure the fine details matter that much. When the shirts are ready, I'll take a 1911 and a wheel gun.

Don't forget one for the AR platform....

Love the selection of the 1911 being used for the logo! Couldn't have picked a better representation of true Americana.

GREAT! I have this thing for 1911s too, as you'll see if you read my rantings. ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion of revolver model. As soon as I dig up a decent-sized image of one, and get home where I have access to some actual image-editing stuff (MSPaint will only get you so far...), I will see what I can slap together.

As for the current design, stand by for updates to this post, but it should be on CafePress by sometime this evening.

So we have a request for a shotgun, a rifle, and an AR15. What say you to this, this, and this (yes, it is an M16, but it is close enough, and big enough), respectively (and silhouette-ized, of course)?

Oh, and Pistolero, you and I are definitely going to have to have a chat at some point...

Linoge, I have some great, high resolution, vector art of various guns. I'm a Photoshop Wizard, so I can whip up something fairly quickly, however I'm at work and they're a wee bit finicky about firearms so I'll have to wait until I get home.

And me? I'm a Glock guy so you know my preference ;)

Hey, if you want to take the ball and run with it, go right ahead. I am certainly not one to refuse volunteers ;). The above image took me about 30 minutes to create, but that was just because I was arguing with Paintshop (yes, Paintshop, not Photoshop... I be cheap.) about how to do the silhouette cut-out.

What I was actually thinking of is running a variety of the black-and-white ones (1911, revolver, shotgun, rifle, EBR... I guess we could squeeze a Glock in), and then maybe a series where the silhouette of the firearm is like a cut-out with the American flag behind it. Just an idea - the black and white ones alone are going to be a bear (at least for me, that is).

Even though I'm a dyed in the wool S&W wheelgun guy, I'd suggest the Colt Python as the image of choice for the revolver.

Not only is it a uniquely distinctive visual image, it's also the perfect choice to piss off the antis, especially since it's a Python which they chose for the "knotted barrel" sculpture at the accursed U.N.

I'm planning on buying several mugs, both auto and revolver. Home and office, don'tchaknow!

How about a list of gunblogger urls on the back?

Sort of a sponsor's list.

You know...members of the highly paid, NRA funded, gun industry backed, Vast Gun Blogging Conspiracy.

Or maybe just a hook phrase like

"Come join the tribe: http://peopleofthegun.com"

I've got a bunch o' designs for various weapons. As an added bonus, I've got them in super duper high res (vector art) so they can be printed all purdy and whatnot.

Linoge said:

You certainly are right about the Cobra, Jim... it just screams "evil revolver".

I like the last idea, SailorCurt - keep it short, and keep it simple. I will talk to Mr. Soyer and see what I can do about getting that idea of a "Sponsor's List" implemented on the new People of the Gun webpage, though...

Oh, and Mr. Allen - linoge (at) wallsofthecity.net, if you do not mind :). Anything that would qualify as a "typical" revolver/shotgun/rifle/EBR/Glock would do just dandy...

If it had a Garand on it it would look like one of my club's t-shirts. ;-) I like 'em facing the other direction for some reason.

Linoge said:

Heh, yeah, .com will not get you too far with that domain name. Like I said, I be cheap ;). That said, I do not seem to have received anything from you yet (assuming you have sent it yet).

I am planning on using an M1A silhouette for the rifle design, so hopefully it will not be too similar. As for direction... meh? In the case of the pistols, I think it looks a little better to have the "of" to the left of the "the", so I guess this direction works for the moment. But now we are really getting out in the weeds!

Yeah, I've sent a few things. I'm going to resend using my gmail account and see if that works better. If you don't see it by the time you read this comment, give me a shout.

I think there should also be evil black rifles offered. FAL, AK, AR, M14, etc. Maybe even sniper/scoped rifles like the M24/40, Model 700, and SVD. As for an idea of what to put on the back, how about 'Proud Member of the "Triangle of Death" w/logo? Just a thought.

Linoge said:

Thanks for forwarding on the pictures, Mr. Allen... to say yours beat the hell out of mine would be stating the obvious. Might want to look into opening up your own shop :).

And, like I said, Hazmat, I can only do so many... I can give you the psp file and you can run with it if you want, but I am not quite that... prolific.

Tom said:

I would like it better if it was cocked and locked. Who carries that way? Not I.

Oh, and Pistolero, you and I are definitely going to have to have a chat at some point..
Absolutely, and into the bookmarks and blogroll you go, when I have a few extra minutes. Working right now, but I did peruse the People of the Gun store, and several items there are now on my shopping list!
Linoge said:

Well, Tom, if you happen to have a high-resolution profile image of a 1911 with its hammer locked and cocked (preferrably well-lit, without any strange shadows so I can turn it into a silhouette shot), I can see what I can do.

For those interested in revolvers, I might have one of those up by this evening. We will see!
