done my civic duty
Just got back from expending 200 rounds of 9mm Luger at Discount Gun Mart, as my part to support the National Exercise Your Rights Day (apart from ordering probably too much ammo from MidwayUSA this morning to stock up before the September 1 price increase). Unfortunately, I was by myself... I have four people at work who are interested in going in the future, but one could not find ammunition for his Mosin (apparently, no one here in Southern Kalifornistan carries 7.62x54), one did not have his firearms here in-state (primarily because most of them are illegal here in the People's Republic), and two had prior committments. Bleh. Regardless, despite not having shot in... good grief... a while now, I was still 100% lethal at 5 yards, and about 95% lethal at 10 yards, shooting at a man-sized target with the appropriate gradiations and targetting areas and all that nonsense. I did have a rather annoying tendency/pull towards the left... anyone have any insights on that?
I had definitely forgotten how much fun it was to shoot... had to force myself to stop at 200 rounds, especially once I got warmed up and more accurate. Something tells me the M1A I will be picking up next week will only make that matter worse. The good/bad news is that I will be headed out of town before I really get the chance to take the time to break it in, so that will save me from that expenditure for a while.
This increased ammunition price is just going to be a bear, I can see it now.
The fun part is that I had a perfectly reasonable opportunity to wear my Philosophy of Jayne shirt. It earned me a few odd looks, and a request to see it better from one of the staff members at the range (who had seen the movie, but had no idea who Jayne was, oddly enough), but I like it, damn it.

Couple of possibilities of the left pull. (this all assumes you are right handed.)
1) You are mashing, which means your not getting that surprise break where the gun fires, but are instead trying to make it happen and applying lateral force to the trigger and gun.
2) Bad finger position on the trigger. You've got too little or too much finger on the trigger and when you pull you are pulling the gun out of alignment.
Both can be fixed through dry practice. Press that trigger backward and watch to see if the sights move. If they do you need to adjust.
These things also creep in with fatigue.

Well, now that I sit and fiddle with the pistol, number two becomes blatantly obvious. Thanks for the smack with the cluestick ;). Oddly enough, I was using too little finger, but I guess that kind of thing is a custom fit for each person, and different for everyone.
Thanks for the help! Dangit, now I want to go back to the range...
