a revelation

Proponents of "gun control" are insane.

And before you accuse me of inflamatory comments, flaming, and all the rest, I mean that statement in all honesty.  To understand better what I am trying to say, we have to first establish a few ground rules for this post.

  • First, some definitions.

Insane:  not sane; not of sound mind; mentally deranged.  Unfortunately, this definition leads us to a second, deranged:  to upset the normal condition or functioning of.  Of course, one of the definitions of "deranged" is "insane", so we are going in loops at this point.  Moving on.  Criminal:  someone who has committed a crime.  Again, a second definition is needed, crime:  an action or an instance of negligence that is deemed injurious to the public welfare or morals or to the interests of the state and that is legally prohibited.

However, those definitions are merely the clinical, from-the-dictionary explanations of the words... for the sake of this post, a little more clarification is necessary.  First, one form of insanity, or something similar to insanity, is nothing more than a very complicated form of hypocrisy - believing something to be true for one instance, but maintaining it is faulty for another, or simply having personal beliefs sufficiently different from what is deemed to be 'reality' that everyone else looks at you funny.  Sure, by that definition, most people could be qualified as insane, but bear with me a bit longer.  Second, criminals generally commit actions that are deemed to be deleterious to society or another individual or individuals, while simultaneously being beneficial to the person committing them, by satisfaction, physical gratification, property, or other such possibilities.  Again, I am being as broad in my own, personal definitions as is necessary for the purposes of this post... bear with me.

  • Second, some postulates concerning the situation of "gun control".

First Postulate:  Criminals have shown a marked disregard for the laws, mores, and societal constructs of the region in which they live and operate.  Otherwise they would not be criminals.  Simple enough.

Second Postulate:  One of the most vociferous "reasons" for instituting stronger "gun control" is to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Corollary to Second Postulate:  For the purposes of this discussion, we will examine the most drastic form of "gun control", best shown by the firearm laws of Great Britain - essentially, ban everything, unless you want to go through a massive, expensive, and painful background check process.

  • Third, time for the logic exercise.

Interestingly enough, the actual logic of this post is shorter than the entire prelude to it...  funny how that works sometimes.  It can be summed up, I believe quite accurately, in three sentences.

1.  Criminals break laws - otherwise they would not be criminals.

2.  "Gun control" advocates desire to enact more laws to enforce stronger restrictions, limitations, and controls on firearm purchasing, ownership, and/or licensing (often to the point of banning them altogether), ostensibly in an effort to keep those firearms out of the hands of the aforementioned criminals.

3.  Those same advocates believe that the criminals would obey one arbitrary set of laws (the ones "controlling"/banning firearms) while also beliving that the criminals would continue to disobey another arbitrary set of laws (just about every other law out there), otherwise the criminals would no longer be criminals, and there would be no need for the "gun control" laws.

*insert pause for thought*

It takes either a very stupid person, or a person seriously out of touch with the reality of the world around them, to believe that criminals as a whole - people who break laws - would decide to disobey almost every other law there is in the books, while still somehow choose to obey one, single, solitary set of laws, just because.  Considering how maniacally diabolical some of these "gun control" advocates are in the insiduousness of their assaults, I cannot, in good faith, call them stupid, so I am left with the remainder.

This revelation is one most of you have probably already come to over the course of your lives already, but I like to share just how annoyingly slow I am sometimes.  Hey, if you cannot laugh at yourself, what are you going to do when the zombies take over the world and you are the last human being alive?  Zombies are only so entertaining.

Regardless, my vote is that you rub the collective faces of the "gun control" advocates in the fact that this coming Sunday is Buy A Gun Day, and most of the states in the union have not gone off the deep end in trying to abridge the Second Amendment in any way possible.  Me, since I will not be getting a tax refund this year, I am not technically able to partake in the fun, but, assuming I can sneak one past Better Half, I might bend the rules a little...  There is a gun show here locally this weekend - who knows?
