remember, pillage then burn

In light of the positively sucky few days I have been having, I thought I would share some of the humor I regularly partake in online. That is to say, I would take the lazy way out of writing a post, and simply link to all of the various online comics I read on a frequent or infrequent basis.

Sluggy Freelance - I have been reading this thing since freshman year in college, religiously, day after day. Amazingly enough, I actually had years of archives to dig through before I even caught up those six years ago - this comic has been around for quite some time, something unusual for online-only comics, and definitely indicative of the quality of the material. Regardless, it has great humor, a fantastic, epic story, and keeps me entertained, day after day. I mean, what can not be entertaining about a sentient rabbit with a switchblade and a penchant for Babewatch (and killing nerd-boys)? Of course, there is always the mad scientist bent on taking over the world with his inflatable technology, the other mad scientist who used to work for a weapons division of the military that would have to kill you if you knew about their existence (doh), the woman who turns into a camel at the utterance of the wrong word... the list goes on. In short, go read.

Control-Alt-Delete - This one does not have quite the history of Sluggy, but easily as large a fan base. It is written by what can only be described as a hardcore gamer (any variety, any platform, and any format - as long as it is digital... not sure on his feelings concerning board/card/table/etc. games), and it definitely shows in the comic, considering that the main character is a generally clueless, out-of-touch-with-reality, console-game addicted, scrawny-pale-white-guy who occasionally has massive bursts of insight, but mostly just makes his fiancee feel sorry for him. Between that, a sentient, humanoid X-Box, and his inordinately more based-in-reality friend who keeps having really bad luck with girlfriends (as in they keep trying to kill him), it is worth a glance.

Turn Signals on a Land Raider - I admit that not being a player of Warhammer 40,000, some of the jokes in this strip fly right over my head like a remarkably poorly-aimed artillery shell, however, now that I have secured a copy of Dawn of War and Winter Assault, I get a little more of the technical details concerning the game, and am now laughing at things I probably should have noticed months ago... Hey, I never said I was quick. Any way you cut it, though, if you like any form of gaming, any form of military humor, or any form of sight gags, this strip has it all. And a really big, sentient tank with dual twin-linked (cannot forget the whole "twin-linked" thing) lascannons. I can live with that.

Schlock Mercenary - I confess I am still catching up on the archives of this particular comic, but what I am reading, I like. It documents the trials, tribulations, and total destruction generated by Tagon's Toughs, a rought and tumble mercenary organization willing to sell out to anyone - so long as their price is right. Case in point: In one particular conflict, they not only rented out their services to both sides of the disagreement, but also provided support (in exchange for currency, of course) to interested third parties who simply wanted the fighting gone. If that is not effective management of your people and assets, I do no tknow what is. Of course, the fact that this comic quite literally centers around a sentient, faster-than-he-looks, prone-to-transporting-high-yield-weaponry-in-his-mouth pile of crap... yes... crap... makes it all the better. And for all of you aspiring mercenaries out there, just remember - there is no such thing as overkill, there is only "Open fire," and "Reload!"

Sinfest - While I do not remember to read this comic as often as I might like, its portrayals of the male psyche, God, and "artists" are just priceless. Short, sweet, to the point, and completely irreverant. Where can you go wrong?

So those are all my regular ones... If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave a note here - these days, I need all the humor I can get.
