One of the few (only?) advantages of living in northern coastal Florida is the easy access to a plethora of different beaches, be they straight on the ocean, on brackish inlets, or on full-blown marshes. There is absolutely no shortage of them, whatsoever. Well, I have been living here for over a year now, and have never really had the time, nor the inclination, to go explore them… Until this past weekend. As I mentioned, Better Half came down to spend some time with me, and as something to do together, we wandered up and down the coast, going shell-shopping along the beaches. Nothing terribly exciting to report (due to the lack of hurricanes and other significant storms this year, and probably our poor seasonal aim, the selection of shells was somewhat lacking), but I thought I would share a few pictures from the enterprise.
Yes, that is my car. Yes, it is on the beach. Yes, this was intentional. No, it is not stuck. Yet. No, I do not have pictures of when I did get it stuck. Kind of too busy trying to get the damned thing out… I do not think my clutch is ever going to forgive me for that…. moving on.
No idea what happened to its innards, but I (well, Better Half, but we are the same, right?) figured this urchin and the beach it was sitting upon would make a nice background shot for a computer or something.
Due to the wind and waves, some portions of the beaches were sculpted rather nicely… How sand can create bluffs like this (granted they are only a few feet high) and not come apart at the seams is beyond me, but it looks pretty, I will grant it that.
A rather peculiar bone we found on one of the beaches… Thought it was part of a palm tree for a bit, and then we realized it definitely was not. The flip side was flat and curved, though etched with probably the circuitous routes of bone-eating critters… and I have no idea what kind of bone it was, or even what it belonged to. Certainly not human, thankfully, but beyond that… no clue.
So, yeah, pictures area cheaty way of avoiding having to post something of honest substance today, but… hey, take what you can get – I bloody well do.
