I apologize for the dearth of posting at the moment, but I have come to the conclusion that I should not post unless I have something relatively interesting to say. Sure, I will put up short posts if I find something interesting or amusing (see the last one), but mostly I will try and stick to relatively worthwhile posts. Of course, "worth" is a somewhat relative term, but since I am the guy writing and maintaining this little site of mine, it is my definition that matters

Unfortunately, for the time being, my desires to purchase a 1911 have been pushed to the back burner. Granted, I still want one, however, something else has conspired to steal my money away.
As you are probably aware, I try my best to keep up with shows like Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, Mythbusters, House (now that Better Half has introduced me to it), and stuff like that… Especially BSG. However, there are situations where I cannot catch the initial airing of the show, such as tomorrow night and BSG. Sure, I could wait for the re-runs. However, if I wanted to have any chance whatsoever of keeping up with the developing season, that would hardly work. So I resort to not-to-be-mentioned-here methods to view those episodes, and catch up with where I should be. Well, those methods leave a lot to be desired, especially since there are better and easier ways to accomplish what I want – viewing a show after it has already aired, but before the next one. One of those easier ways is TiVo, and, thankfully enough, they have started a relatively good offer.
So, I went ahead and snagged me one. Granted, I did not go for the completely-free version, but that is primarily due to its inability to record a show while simultaneously being able to view another show with TiVo functionality (such as pause, rewind, fast-forward, etc.). I cannot see wanting to record two shows who are on at the same time, but recording one and watching another would definitely be a situation I can see arising. However, I did stick with the 80-hour version, for the simple fact that TiVos now allow you to download whatever shows they record to your computer. Yup, get yourself an ethernet cable or wireless adapter for the TiVo, get it attached to your network, install a little software on your computer, and you can download your TiVo’s entire hard drive. Granted, you will need the space on your own computer to accomplish that, but considering that I can then transfer those files to my Creative Zen Vision:M so I can watch them away from home, that is just plain shiny. Season Pass to Battlestar Galactica, here I come. Of course, the ability to transfer music and picture files from your computer to your TiVo is also kind of nifty, as well as its ability to download things from the internet now, but I really like being able to put the recordings on my video-capable MP3 player. That, and it will really be useful during my extended absences from home… It took me damn near forever to catch up on everything I had missed while gone.
So, yeah, no 1911 for the time being. But shiny new electronic toy instead… that i can live with. Of course, now I have to wait to actually receive it, and it will not be here before tomorrow, so I will still have to come up with a way to watch BSG without actually watching it when it comes on, but… Details. It is all in the damned details

Oh, and in the really-shiny-news category, this weblog broke 5000 unique visits a few days back. For having been operational just shy of a year, that is not too bad at all!
