ipods suck (simplified version)

In light of the fact that my "ipods suck" post has been receiving a positively amazing amount of traffic, I realized that the core message of it might have been lost under my frustration, anger, and general purpose irritation at the iPod, the Apple store, and Apple in general.  As such, here are the basic points, clearly laid out for anyone to read:

Regarding the iPod
First, it did not function straight out of the box.  This was unacceptable, and something I never encountered with any PC-centric accessories.
Second, the iPod was completely incompatible with the software it shipped with.  This was unacceptable, and something I never encountered with any PC-centric accessories.
Third, neither the iPod, nor iTunes notified me that their software was out of date, and required updated downloads.  This was unacceptable, and every PC program or accessory I have ever used has always somehow managed to check its appropriate server, and let me know I needed to update it.
Fourth, after being updated with what the Apple webpage said was the appropriate software, the iPod continued to refuse to function properly.  This was unacceptable, and while it is rarely encountered with PC software and accessories, with the amount of fan-boy adulation people have for Apples, I naively assumed they were "above" that kind of thing.

Regarding the Apple store:
First, Apple claims that iPods support PCs.  However, their stores do not have any manner of proving this, demonstrating it, or troubleshooting it.  This is unacceptable – if you are going to make the claim, back it up.
Second, I refuse to be told to wait two hours for help when I can clearly see the technicians standing around, doing precisely nothing.  Not helping the people in line ahead of me.  Not checking something already in their possession.  Talking to each other, and browsing the ‘net.  This is unacceptable.
Third, upon being told that we use PCs, the salesperson’s "advice" stopped being relevant to the problems the iPod was experiencing, and became more a matter of trying to convince us to purchase an Apple.  This is unacceptable.  I entered the store to get one of their defective products fixed – did he honestly believe I would be interested in purchasing another item from the same company?  Exercise a little common sense, people!
Fourth, they "fixed" it to work on an Apple machine.  Explain to me how that helps a PC-using person?  See above last sentence.

And that is that.  This entire situation situation was completely unacceptable, and considering the following Apple has, as well as the supposedly superior quality of their products, I am quite disappointed in both the iPod, and Apple’s handling of its malfunctions.  They have officially lost my business, and that is that.

(The short-and-sweet version can be found here.)    Yes, you heard it from me first. iPods suck. Bigtime. However, there is something of a story to go with this proclamation, so you may wish to grab a soda, break out the chips …
